MOROCCO'S RICH AVIAN DIVERSITY: DISCOVER STUNNING BIRD SPECIES

The Northern Bald Ibis, a critically endangered species, is a must-see for birdwatchers visiting Morocco. These birds have bald heads, long curved beaks, and can only be found in Morocco. They typically inhabit semi-desert or rocky areas and can be spotted in the Souss-Massa National Park.

After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey towards Merzouga Desert. Along the way, we’ll make stops at several locations, including the stunning Ziz Gorges and Erfoud, famous for its fossils. Once we arrive in Merzouga, we’ll have a chance to relax and enjoy the unique beauty of the desert. In the evening, we’ll have a traditional Berber dinner and stay overnight in a desert camp, where you can gaze at the stars while listening to the sound of silence.

Another species to watch out for is the African Blue Tit, with its striking blue crown, yellow belly, and black stripe across the eye. These birds are common in the Atlas Mountains and can be spotted year-round in coniferous forests. Tristram’s Warbler, a small bird with a distinctive white eye-ring, is also commonly found in mountainous regions such as the Atlas Mountains during the breeding season.

Bird hunters will also love the Barbary Partridge, a game bird found in the high-altitude areas of the Atlas Mountains. With its medium-sized body, red beak, and legs, this bird is a true symbol of Moroccan wildlife. The Greater Flamingo, known for its striking pink plumage, is another bird species to watch out for. These birds can be found in shallow coastal lagoons and mudflats in the Souss-Massa National Park and along the Atlantic coast of Morocco.

Other bird species to keep an eye out for in Morocco include the Moussier’s Redstart, Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker, Desert Sparrow, Marbled Duck, and White Stork. Whether you’re an experienced birdwatcher or just looking to explore the natural beauty of Morocco, these birds are sure to impress.
