On this 7-day birding tour of Morocco, we will take you on a journey through the North-West and Middle Atlas regions to discover the stunning diversity of bird species that the country has to offer. Our tour begins in Marrakech, where we will meet you at your hotel or the airport, and then take you on a drive towards the Atlas Mountains.

DETAILED ITINERARY FOR 7-DAY MOROCCO BIRDING TOUR: DISCOVER THE NORTH-WEST AND MIDDLE ATLAS

DAY 1 : MARRAKECH TO EL JADIDA

Our birding tour guide will start at any meeting point in Marrakech, whether it be Marrakech airport or your hotel. From there, we will drive to El Jadida city, where we will have the opportunity to see some spectacular birds, such as the Spotless Starling, Calandra Lark, Cattle Egret, Crested Lark, White Stork, and Common Bulbul.

After a day of birdwatching, we will enjoy a delicious dinner and comfortable accommodations at an El Jadida hotel. The next morning, we will have breakfast before setting off for the next leg of our journey.

DAY 2 : CASABLANCA – RABAT FROM EL JADIDA

Firstly, we will search around El Jadida city to see the Elusive Small Buttonquail, Sardinian Warbler, Reed Warbler, and Zitting Cisticola. Secondly, we will continue to Rabat where we will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast at a local hotel.

DAY 3 : FR.OM RABAT – ZAERS FOREST – SIDI BOUGHABA BACK TO RABAT

Firstly, we will travel to Zaers forest to observe various bird species such as Double-spurred francolin, black crowned tchagra, black shouldered kite, Wood pigeon, green finch, serin, Barbary partridge, and Moussier’s redstart. Secondly, we will continue to the Lake of Sidi Boughaba to observe Red-knobbed coots, marbled duck, and white-headed duck. Finally, we will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast at a hotel in Rabat.

DAY 4 : FROM RABAT – MEDJA ZERGA BACK TO RABAT

We will drive to Medja zerga to observe Greenshank, Redshank, lingering ducks and Flamingos. Then, we will visit the marches to watch the Marsh owl. Afterwards, we will head to the beach to spot the Balearic shearwater. Finally, we will enjoy dinner, accommodation and breakfast.

DAY 5 : FROM RABAT – AZROU TO ZAIDA

Firstly, we will drive to Azrou city to spot kestrels. Secondly, we will continue to the Middle Atlas Mountains for birdwatching and try to spot ruddy shelducks and Levaillant’s woodpeckers. Thirdly, we will search the cedar forests for Wood larks, Firecrests, Great spotted woodpeckers, Coal tits, and Barbary apes. We will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast in Zaida hotel.

DAY 6 : ZAIDA BIRD WATCHING DAY

We will start early in the morning to explore the area around Zaida, where we can spot a variety of bird species including Thekla lark, rock doves, short-toed larks, Desert wheatear, Red-rumped wheatear, and Bohm’s wheatear. Finally, we will have dinner, accommodation, and breakfast in Zaida hotel.

DAY 7 : ZAIDA – BENI MELLAL BACK TO MARRAKECH

Today, we will travel back to Marrakech with stops along the way to see some of Morocco’s bird species.
